University of Akron

Launched in June of 2010, the University of Akron’s FirstEnergy Advanced Energy Research Center was created for research and development support of reduced carbon-emission electric power technologies, including CO2 capture as well as coal-based fuel cells for commercial use. Leveraging a $2M donation by FirstEnergy Corp. as well as additional grants from the Department of Energy and Babcock & Wilcox Co., the University of Akron will be a design partner for the TBEIC Lab’s core technology build-out as well as a user of the Lab’s facilities and advisor to Lab clients through TBEIC’s expert advisory network.
